Examination Rules

Examinations & Evaluations Guidelines

A Bachelor’s Degree programme in Law (LL.B.) for Affliated Colleges shall be of Three Years (Annual Scheme). These guidelines shall come into force from the session 2020-21 onwards.
There shall be a Three-Year Course for the degree of LL.B. for which the teaching shall be conducted through the lecture method, practical learning and class performance during the session and examination shall be conducted through written papers, papers, practical and viva-voce at the end of each session.
Three Year L.L.B Course:

Eligibilty:

1. A candidate is required 75% attendance in a regular course of study in each year pursuing from the University/ or from an affiliated College of this university for admitting the candidate in examination of LL.B. First Year, Second Year and Third Year.

2. A candidate who has completed a regular course of study from the University/or from an affiliated College for First Year of LL.B. will subject to the other provisions of the Rules and Regulations, be admitted to the First Year Examination of the LL.B. Course depending on the course he/she has taken.

3. A candidate who after passing the examination of the First Year, has completed a regular course of study from the University or from an affiliated college for the Second Year of LL.B. course of study from the University or from an affiliated college for the Second Year of LL.B course will, subject to the other provisions of the Rules and Regulations, be admitted to the Second Year Examination of LL.B. course, as the case may be.

4. A Candidate who after passing the examination of the Second Year has completed a regular course of study from the University or from an affiliated college for the Third Year of LL.B. course shall subject to the other provisions of the Rules and Regulations be admitted to the the Third Year Examination of LL.B.

5. A candidate who has appeared at and passed, after having undergone a regular Course of Study in the Third Year of the LL.B course subject to other provision shall be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Laws Every candidate for the Three Years Course for the degree of LLB Course subject to the other provisions shall be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Laws. Every candidate for the Three Years Course for the degree of LL.B Shall present him/herself for examination in the papers prescribed the Regulations in force.

6. Each theory in LL.B First Year, Second Year and Third Year examination shall be of 100 marks each subject to the division of the marks in theory/practical in the respective papers prescribed in the syllabus and there shall be three hours duration of examination In each year of LLB. First Year, Second Year and Third Year the Practical paper has been divided into two parts. Part “A” shall be of Written Examination of 80 marks and Part “B” shall be of 20 marks EXCEPT THE ONE SOLE PRACITICAL PAPER 3.9 OF 100 MARKS IN LL.B THIRD YEAR EXAMINATION. A candidate shall be required to pass separately in theory and practical examination

7. Wherever, and option (s) in any paper has been provided in the syllabus of LL.B First Years, Second Year and Third Year, the Principal or the Head of the Unit may determine only at the beginning of each session, the option or the option in which instructions may be provided during that session. The choice of the candidate shall be limited to the options so provided by the authority for impacting instructions. The Principal or the Head of the Unit may only determine it, subject to the prior approval of the University

8. The Vice-Chancellor may. on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Law or the Committee authorized by the University for this purpose, permit transfer of a candidate withing the affiliated colleges of this University who has passed in any year of the LL.B Examination from this University and also he/she has cleared all the papers of all previous years in which he/she has appeared. Such transfer from other University may also be permitted by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Dean, Faculty of Law or the Committee authorized by the University for purpose if the examination scheme of that University which in detail is the same or similar to the scheme of this University of LLB. Examination to such year of the LL.B. course and on such terms and conditions as may be laid down by this University.

9. The marks obtained by the candidate in all the examination LL.B. First Year, Second Year and Third y Year for award of LL.B degree shall be consolidated for preparing and declaring the result with merit.

Examination and Evaluation:

(A) A candidate required to pass shall obtain at least 36% marks in LL.B First Year, Second Year and Third Year examinations respectively in each year in each Individual paper and 48% in the aggregate of All Law Papers during the completion of his/her Three Years Course may be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Laws.

(B) A candidate who fails in any year during the Third Year subject to the he/she has secured 36% marks in individual paper and 45% marks in aggregate in at least five (05) papers out of nine (09) papers shall only be promoted in the next higher class.
Such candidate shall be eligible to reappear only in two (02) consecutive examinations to secure 36% marks in each Individual paper and 48% marks in the aggregate of all Law papers of that class.

(C) If a candidate fails to pass LL.B. First Year, Second Year or Third Year examination within three attempts consequently the year in which he has first appeared and failed, he/she shall have to repeat the same class & appear in all the papers in the examination afresh.

(D) Three shall be a supplementary examination at the end of the main examination of LL.B. Third Year in which the candidate of LL.B Third Year and LL.B. Second Year. if eligible as per rules he/she may appear in remaining paper(s) to succeed in the following examination There shall be no improvement scheme in the three years of LL.B. course.

(E) THERE SHALL BE MAXIMUM FIVE YEAR DURATION TO COMPLETE THIS LL.B. COURSE.

2. Division shall be awarded in the Final Year LL.B. on the basis of the consolidated marks obtained by the candidate in all the three years of LL.B. Course. The successful candidate who secured 60% or more marks shall be placed in the First Division and who secured 48% or more marks and less than 60% marks shall be placed in the Second Division.
A candidate obtaining aggregate of 75% and above marks shall be placed in First Class with Distinction, provided the candidate has passed all the papers/courses in the first attempt.
Ranking shall be based on the aggregate marks secured for all the papers of all Ranking shall be based on the aggregate marks secured for all the papers of all Academic Years together only availing the first chance by the candidate for all the examinations Separate ranking will not be there for each of the subjects./years.
Moreover, the result of Revaluation shall be also be considered for the award of the merit to the candidate for the main examination.
